The Alpujarras is a dramatically beautiful mountain region stretching through the provinces of Granada and Almería and bounded in the north by the Sierra Nevada and in the south by the Contraviesa. The mountains are dotted with picturesque whitewashed villages and the area itself was the last stronghold of the Moors who held out against the Christians for over a century in their impenetrable mountain home after the fall of Granada in 1492. The legacy of the Moors can still be seen everywhere today, from the intricate terracing and irrigation systems to the attractive flat-roofed houses and narrow, winding streets in all the villages.
The Alpujarras is part of the Sierra Nevada National Park and offers visitors superb walking and trekking routes through some of Spain's most breathtaking landscape. There are trails and paths to suit all levels of walkers, from a stroll through a selection of villages to a more energetic hike into the Sierra Nevada and up to Mulhacen, its highest peak at 3,483m. There are also places offering guided horse treks and mountain biking and the area is perfect for bird watching with many birds of prey including eagles, and other species such as hoopoes, woodpeckers and golden orioles, to name but a few.
We have 2 holiday homes to offer visitors to the Alpujarras - a farmhouse in secluded countryside near to the attractive village of Pampaneira and a luxury apartment with large terrace in the higher village of Pitres. Both holiday homes are ideal starting points to explore the abundance and beauty of these spectacular mountains and experience the local food and traditions of Alpujarran village life.
